LIFEKEY DATA ACCESS
HOW DOES LIFEKEY PROTECT MY DATA FROM BEING ACCESSED BY JUST ANYONE?
A Lifekey Connect profile can only be accessed by scanning a specific Lifekey device. If you've chosen to lock your profile, only your basic information will be displayed. The user will need to "Request Permission" to access additional health data. That can be granted by you or your Lifekey contact in an emergency or otherwise.
CAN I DISABLE ACCESS TO MY PROFILE INFORMATION?
Yes, you control when your Lifekey data is accessible and when it is not at any time. On wearables screen in the Lifekey app, click on the three dots next to the device you want to turn on/off and slide the toggle to indicate on/off. You should now see if the wearable is set to Public (data will show if scanned) or Private (data will NOT show if scanned).
HOW DOES THE LIFEKEY CONNECT SUBSCRIPTION WORK?
When you purchase a Lifekey wearable, a One Year Subscription to Lifekey Connect is included. After that, you'll be prompted to pay a small annual subscription (See Lifekey Connect pricing). A single subscription will allow you to manage multiple devices and profiles under one account.
HOW DOES A FIRST RESPONDER ACCESS MY HEALTH DATA IN AN EMERGENCY?
First responders are trained to look for medical bracelets and other potential markers. The Lifekey symbol and ICE white color has been designed to serve as an indicator. When tapped with a smartphone, the device will prompt the phone to download the app (on Android). Once the app is installed (Andorid and iOS) the Lifekey Profile will be displayed on the responders smartphone. For your healthcare provider, you can simply share access with them for a predetermined amount of time.
HOW DO I TELL IF MY LIFEKEY HAS BEEN SCANNED?
Each device has a scan history with details of each scan instance. On the wearable screen in the Lifekey app, click on the three dots next to the wearable you want to see the scan history for. Then, click on “Scan History” to reveal a list of all the scans and details for each scan of that device.
WHAT ABOUT HIPPA?
Lifekey does not qualify as a covered entity under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. However, we take very seriously the security of your data and align our practices with industry security standards and HIPAA compliance. Data stored in Lifekey is encrypted in transit and at rest. The user controls the data that is entered into Lifekey and if the data is available to be shared. The user can remove their data at any time. In order to access the data a device must be scanned and all scans of the data are tracked and made available to the owner of the data.
DEVICE AND ACTIVATION
DO I NEED THE LIFEKEY APP TO USE THIS?
Yes, you'll need to download the Lifekey app (available for Android and iOS) in order to connect to and manage your Lifekey wearable devices. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your profiles and add devices.
WHAT VERSION OF THE IPHONE WORKS WITH LIFEKEY?
iOS 11 and iPhone 7 and up are compatible with Lifekey. iPhone 7 was the first iPhone that had the capability to read NFC outside of Apple Pay.
CAN I HAVE MY CHILD'S PROFILE ON MY APP?
Yes, to add additional profiles, go to the profiles tab in the Lifekey menu inside the app. Click on the plus (+) icon to add their profile. Once the profile is complete you can then scan a wearable and assign a profile you want to associate with that wearable. If you added the wearable before adding the profile, remove the wearable, add the profile, and re-add the wearable.
WHAT IF SOMEONE SCANS A LIFEKEY DEVICE WITHOUT THE APP?
Lifekey devices are programmed to load the Lifekey app when scanned. If the app is not present, your phone should load the app store page for the app where it can be easily downloaded (For older iPhones before iOS 11 or iPhone 7, you’ll need to download the app prior to scanning).
IS MY LIFEKEY DEVICE WATERPROOF?
Yes, all Lifekey devices are designed and built to withstand outdoor pursuits as well as daily use.
CAN A MAGNET OR SOMETHING SIMILAR DELETE OR REMOVE ACCESS TO MY LIFEKEY DEVICE?
DOES IT NEED BATTERIES?
Most Lifekey wearable devices use Near Field Communications (NFC) technology which does not require consistent power to operate. This means you don't need batteries. However, we are developing several devices that will use different technology depending on the device and use case. Be sure and read the product page features before purchasing if battery requirements are a concern.
ARE THERE ANY HEALTH RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH RADIO WAVES FROM THIS DEVICE?
Lifekey devices with NFC technology use the low-end of the electromagnetic spectrum. The waves coming from readers are no more dangerous than the waves coming to your car radio.

HOW DO I REPLACE A LIFEKEY DEVICE?
It's critically important that your Lifekey devices remain a constant source of data and peace of mind for you. We encourage you to check your Lifekey device from time to time by scanning it with your smartphone. If for some reason it doesn't work, you can easily replace the device by purchasing a new one from our website and linking it to your Lifekey Connect account. If the device is less than 12 months old, send it to us and we'll replace it at no cost to you.
